The Rainbow by Christina Rossetti About the Poet:

The Rainbow Summary in English 2

Christina Rossetti, one of the most important women poets writing in nineteenth-century England, was born in London December 5, 1830, to Gabriele and Frances Rossetti.

In 1848 she became engaged to James Collinson, one of the minor Pre-Raphaelite brethren, but the engagement ended after he reverted to Roman Catholicism. After rejecting Cayley in 1866, according to one biographer, Christina lived vicariously in the lives of other people. She continued to write and in the 1870s to work for the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge.

She was troubled physically by neuralgia and emotionally by Dante’s breakdown in 1872. The last 12 years of her life, after his death in 1882, were quiet ones. She died of cancer on 29 December, 1894.

A Birthday’, ‘When I Am Dead’, and ‘Up-Hill’ are probably Rossetti’s best-known single works. Rossetti’s best-known collection, “Goblin Market and Other Poems” (1862), established her fame as a significant voice in Victorian poetry.

She admired George Herbert and John Donne. Among her later works are “A Pageant and Other Poems” (1881), and “The Face of the Deep” (1892). Rossetti also wrote religious prose works, such as “Seek and Find” (1879), “Called to Be Saints” (1881) and “The Face of the Deep”.

Her Plays: Goblin Market and Other Poems.
Her Other Works : Poems: Feasts and Fasts, Christina Rossetti.
Rossetti’s work has suffered from reductive interpretations, but she is increasingly being reconsidered as a major Victorian Poet. Typical for her poems was songlike use words and short, irregularly rhymed lines.

The Rainbow Summary in English

The Rainbow Summary in English

In this poem the poetess describes the Rainbow and glorifies it. No doubt, the boats, ships are all pretty. They do possess grandeur and beauty. Yet the clouds outshine them. The clouds look pretty and attractive. The clouds have silver lining. The bow appears on the cloud and gives us delight. The clouds that sail across the sky are more beautiful than the boats that sail on the rivers and ships that sail on the seas.

The bow builds a road from the earth to the sky. It appears a bridge between heaven and the earth. The rainbow that bridges heaven and earth is much prettier than the bridges on the rivers which is man-made. But the natural rainbow has no match. The poet compares the rainbow to a bridge that connects the earth and heaven. It looks like a road from earth to sky. Like this we find the beautiful description of the rainbow.
