Write a note on the industrial development in Karnataka.
Answer :
Sir M.Visvewaraiah’s contribution to the development of industries in Karnataka is immense. The hydro-electric power generation started in 1902. After 1923, many modern manufacturing units like iron and steel, soap factory, cotton and silk mills, paper, cement, paint, sugar, etc were started. After independence, many more modern industries were established.

Explain the development of the iron and steel industry of Karnataka.
Answer :
Mysore Iron and Steel company was established at Bhadravathi in 1923. Later it was named as Mysore Iron and Steel Industry. It was handed over to the Steel Authority of India in 1989. Today it is known as Vishveshwariah Iron and Steel Industry. Later under the private sector, Jindal Vijayanagar Steel Limited’ started in 2001 atTorangal in Bellary district.

Give an account on the distribution of the cotton textile industry in Karnataka.
Answer :
Fir%t Cotton textile mill, MSK mill was set up in 1884 at Gulbarga. Later mills in Hubli, Bangalore, Mysore, and Davanagere were setup. After independence most important textiles were started in Davanagere. So it is called Manchester of Karnataka. At present, there are 44 cotton textile mills in the state.
