The queen while giving the earrings willingly warned Uttanka not to lose it. She also told him that these earrings have long term coveted by the serpent king. As he had traveled a long distance, he felt tired. He leaned against a tree trunk to rest. While doing so he kept the earrings on the ground beside him.

Who stole the earrings? How?
Answer:
A snake disguised as a man dressed in rags stole the earrings. When Uttanka was leaving against the trunk of a tree, he placed the earrings on the ground beside him. Suddenly, he saw a hand snatch the ear-rings and disappear in the forest.

After that, Uttanka met some people, who were they? How did they help him?
Answer:
1. Uttanka met an old man he said that he has come to help him.
2. He saw 2 women weaving a piece of cloth.

When he saw the man with a beautiful horse, he bowed respectfully to the man and said grant me a favour. “Let the serpent king be brought under my power” the man replied and told him to blow into his horse. Uttanka went up to the horse and blow and blew.

A flame darted from every hair of the horse. It burnt the houses till all the serpents rushed out begging Uttanka to save their lives. He told that he will stop only if the serpent king returned the ear-rings. The ear-rings were returned to Uttanka finally.

The silent ones he met at first were two women weaving a piece of cloth when he asked them the way, they did not care for him and went on with their weaving. The other strange thing he saw were six boys turning the wheel around and round without speaking, usually, small children and women are talkative. But they were so silent which felt strange.

Uttanka’s Gurudakashina Summary in English

A young boy named Uttanka lived in a forest hermet. He learnt all his master could teach him. He went to his master that he wanted to give him a gift. The teacher told the boy to ask his wife. He went to his guru’s wife and asked what gift could he bring her and has she any special desire.

She replied she wanted to wear the earrings worn by the queen and that was her long-cherished dream. If you get those earrings then she would knew his devotion towards her.

When he heared her desire, he was filled with fear. But she went to the king’s place in the forest. While he was walking, he saw a huge bull coming towards him. The huge bull-man held a cup full of some strange liquid to drink and told him that would help is his way.

He came to palace of the king he saw the king seated upon the royal throne. He told the king about his guru’s wife desire.
King smilingly told to ask his queen. Before that the king asked him fresher himself.

When he found the queen, she held out her hand and he saw sparkling earrings in it. She told him she would give the earrings to him but he has to be very careful and not to loose as the serpent king was eager to possess that.

Uttanka thanked and started his way back home. He was tired so he leans against a tree trunk and kept the earrings on the ground beside him. Suddenly a man dressed in a rags snatcned the earrings and seen through the forest. When he was chasing the man, he saw the man turning into a snake and going inside a hole in the ground. Uttanka was very unhappy.

Suddenly there was thunder and lightning, the whole earth shook and became quiet later. There was a big hole in the ground. He entered the hole and found himself in the serpent kingdom, there he saw 2 women silently weaving a cloth made of black and white threads. Next, he saw a wheel with 12 spoken and 6 boys silently turning it round and round.

Then he saw a man with a beautiful horse and he asked the horseman to help him to bring the serpent king under his control, the man told him to blow into his horse. As he went on blowing flame started out of every hair of the horse’s body till all serpents came out begging uttanka to save their lives. To this uttanka told he would stop only when the serpent king returned his earrings.

All the serpents loudly and continuously asked the serpent king to return the earrings and the king did. He gave the earrings to his Guru’s wife and narrated his adventures to his guru. After fulfilling his duties to his guru, he went into the world to earn his living. He was fearless as he knew god protected him.
