Question 1.
What is the feudal system?
Answer :
The feudal system in the middle ages was an agreement between the powerful and the weak. The king distributed his land among the nobles who became the owners of the land. The nobles distributed the land to the vassals to maintain it. Both the king and the nobles were getting services from the vassal’s serfs.

Question 2.
List the advantages and disadvantages of the feudal system.
Answer :
Advantages :

  1. This system ensured people’s safety because of interdependence.
  2. Simple and tailor-made administrative system.
  3. The savagery of the barbaric communities was controlled.
  4. Man became aware of his duties and fundamental rights.
  5. The creation of rules and regulations. Every person worked according to his status. It made the people to lead a disciplined life.

Disadvantages :

  1. The nobles acted as the middle persons between the kings and the common people.
  2. Economic inequality created between the nobles, vassals, and serfs.
  3. There was no national integration. Every noble acted as the Lord of the state.

Explain the effects of feudalism.
Answer :
As a result of this system prominent ruling classes emerged. Clashes took place among ruling class, feudal lords and vassals. Due to this problem, the agreements of feudalism broke down. In some cases, feudal lords competed against the ruler themselves. Many become traitors of their own countries and become threat to their own regional unity. Judicial system also suffered from lack of uniformity. Moreover clashes took place between Church and the State.

What were the reasons for the decline of the feudal system?
