Question 1.
Mention the causes for the American War of Independence.
Answer :
England established 13 colonies on the Atlantic Ocean. They were called the New English colonies. These colonies rose against the motherland at the end of the 18th century.

The causes were as follows.

  1. The rise of nationalism among the people of colonies.
  2. The effects of ‘Seven years War
  3. England Levied different new taxes on the colonies to maintain its expenditure during the continuous wars with France.
  4. The stamp Act, Navigation Act, Sugar Act, taxes on glass, paper, tea, etc. were opposed by Americans

How were economic factors responsible for the French Revolution?
Answer :
France was an agriculture-dominated nation. Inspite of advance in agricultural practices, production lagged behind. The yield from land was very low. Farmers the most affected. Famines were frequent. As a result there used to be revolts and riots for food. Industries were under the control of trade unions. Due to internal strife and interference from authorities the development of these unions was sluggish. Hence the productivity was low. Thus the agricultural and industrial factors were responsible for the French Revolution.

What was the role of Garibaldi in Italy’s unification?

Garibaldi was basically a soldier and fighter. He joined young Italy established by Mazzini. After that, he constituted his own army called ‘Red Brigade’. With this army, he fought against France and conquered Naples and Sicily and merged them with Sardinia. Then he fought with Austria.

Garibaldi joined hands with Mazzini and count Kavoor for the unification of Italy. All of them unitedly fought for the cause and finally achieved it and made Rome it’s capital.
